The Biomedical Instruments and Devices Hub: A Centre for Innovation, Design, and Clinical Validation BID-HUB established at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research PGIMER, Chandigarh, with the support of the Department of Science and Technology DST, Government of India to promote indigenous development of biomedical instruments and their testing & clinical validation.
BID-Hub, PGIMER, has successfully developed and/or patented various medical devices viz. CLADS, IV- Alert, Artificial Breathing Capability Device (ABCD), Cricoid Pressure Sensor Device, Handheld Pupilometer, Teaching Laryngoscope, EUS Needle, Mucosal Permeability Assessment Device, Double Volume Exchange Machine, Virtual Intelligence Based Device for Motor Rehabilitation of Children with Cerebral Palsy, among others.
As part of its vision towards the development of quality medical devices indigenously, BID-Hub had set up a medical device Calibration testing lab. The BID-Hub Lab is a state-of-art facility with the potential to become an official medical device testing centre in the northern region. BID-Hub had conducted various workshops and programs to promote biomedical development. An orientation series was started in April 2021, thereby training the OT technicians and other medical staff about the safe and optimized usage of common and critical medical devices. The interactive program consisted of teaching the medical staff about the basic troubleshooting of medical devices and hands-on training on calibration testing of the various medical devices like a cautery machine, defibrillator, syringe pumps, infusion pumps, among others.
